Qualifying For Veterans Benefits

There are a number of veterans benefits which consider income and need. Aid and attendance benefits are typically awarded to qualified veterans who are residing in a nursing home, are qualified as disabled by the Social Security Administration or cannot work due to a disability.

In order to qualify, veterans must have served in an armed conflict for at least 90 days, or have served for more than 90 days, including at least one day during wartime. Aid and attendance benefits are paid in addition to pension benefits.

In order to qualify for a pension, a veteran must be disabled or 65 or older and meet the income requirements. You may also qualify for aid and attendance benefits, which will pay for medical care such as assisted living or nursing home if you meet the required income criteria.

Spouses of deceased veterans may also qualify for these benefits.
